Gangotri Temple

 

Gangotri Temple, situated at height of 3200 m above sea level, is one of the four Char Dham Temples in the Char Dham Yatra in Himalayas in Uttarakhand. Dedicated to Goddess Ganga, this holy shrine of Gangotri was constructed on the banks of Bhagirathi in the 18th century.

This Char Dham temple of Gangotri is located at a 20-feet high structure of white granite, and is around 300 years old. Similar to other Char Dham temples, Gangotri Temple will remain open for only 6 months in a year and remain closed for the other 6 months due to heavy snowfall. For Char Dham Yatra 2013, the Gangotri Temple opens on the auspicious Akshaya Tritiya Day. Gangotri Temple will open for 6 months till Diwali Day.

The summers are cool and the winters are cold and the tourists usually visit the temple of Gangotri is the month of May to November.
